FactSet alternatives and competitors, with FactSet pricing compared

FactSet is a data and analytics workstation for buy-side teams who need portfolio analytics, attribution, fixed income coverage and a deep Excel integration in one annual contract. Investables.ai is a public-market research layer: one structured card per asset, both sides of the argument, risk flags surfaced, in seconds, on a monthly subscription with no sales process.

FactSet is a good product that a lot of people are overpaying for, and the two facts are not in conflict. The Workstation was built for buy-side analysts and portfolio managers who live in Excel, run performance attribution, and need fixed income and portfolio analytics next to their equity data. If that describes your desk, nothing on this page is cheaper for the same job. If you bought it to read public companies faster, you are renting a portfolio analytics engine to do a job that does not need one.

FactSet is quote-only, so start with the honest caveat: there is no public price list. The figures on this page come from procurement marketplaces, resellers and buyers who published what they paid. They are budgeting ranges, not quotes, and the spread is wide because the platform is modular.

Investables.ai is a different tier on purpose. Paste any ticker, ETF, crypto token or startup and it returns a structured research card: a plain-language thesis, an explicit bull case, an explicit bear case, key metrics, comparables and labeled risk flags. It has no portfolio analytics, no performance attribution, no private-company financials and no Excel add-in, and this page says so instead of claiming parity. It is informational research, not personalized investment advice, and it never places a trade.

The short answer

What is the best FactSet alternative?

It depends which half of FactSet you use. For portfolio analytics, attribution and fixed income, the real substitutes are Bloomberg, LSEG Workspace and Capital IQ, all in the same five-figure tier. For public-equity research and screening, Koyfin, YCharts and Investables.ai cover most of the work for a fraction of the cost. FactSet is quote-only with reported seats running roughly $4,000 to $50,000 per user a year and a reported median contract near $20,000 to $25,000; Investables.ai starts at $29 a month.

FactSet Workstation, standard Reported about $12,000 per user / year The common base configuration: global fundamentals, screening, Office add-ins
FactSet Workstation, full stack Reported $22,000 to $30,000 per user / year Adds portfolio analytics, attribution, risk models and deeper content sets
Typical negotiated contract Reported median $20,500 to $25,200 / year What procurement data says buyers actually sign, across seat counts

Why analysts pick Investables.ai

One structured research card for every name you study

Portfolio analytics is the expensive part

The jump from a reported $12,000 seat to a reported $30,000 one is mostly attribution, risk models and multi-asset coverage. If you never run an attribution report, that is the entire premium you are paying and never touching. Investables.ai prices the public-market read on its own, which is why the number has three fewer digits.

A written case, not a screen of fields

FactSet gives you data to interpret. That is right when you are building a model and wrong when you have twenty names to triage before Monday. Investables.ai returns a written thesis with the bull case, the bear case and the risk flags already surfaced, so the reading is done and the judgment is still yours.

No quote, no seat negotiation

There is no sales call, no annual commitment and no exchange-data surprise on the invoice. You subscribe monthly and cancel when you want. It is informational research meant to speed up your own work, not financial advice, and it issues no ratings, picks or price targets.

Good questions

FactSet vs Investables.ai, answered

FactSet is quote-only with no published price list. Reported figures put an entry a la carte configuration near $4,000 per user a year, a standard Workstation around $12,000, and a full stack with portfolio analytics between roughly $22,000 and $30,000. Two procurement datasets put the median signed contract between about $20,500 and $25,200 a year. Real-time exchange data is licensed separately and is reported to add 30% to 60%. Figures gathered August 2026.
Bloomberg is a real-time market data, news and messaging terminal built for people who trade, and its price is close to fixed at a reported $31,980 per seat a year single-seat. FactSet is an analytics and content workstation built for people who analyze, and it is the more negotiable of the two, with reported seats spanning $4,000 to $50,000. Trading desks tend to need Bloomberg; research and portfolio teams more often land on FactSet.
They overlap heavily and most firms pick one. Capital IQ is stronger on private-company financials, M&A transaction comps and the banking modeling workflow, with reported list pricing near $33,000 per user a year. FactSet is stronger on portfolio analytics, attribution and buy-side workflows, and is reported to start materially lower. Banking and private equity lean Capital IQ; asset managers and hedge funds lean FactSet.
Nothing free reproduces the portfolio analytics or the licensed multi-asset data, which is the part that costs money. For public-equity research you can get a long way at no cost: SEC EDGAR carries every filing, and several screeners have free tiers. What you buy at any price tier is time, and free tools give you the least of it. Paid tools below the enterprise line start around $29 to $50 a month.
Not really. FactSet sells to institutions on annual contracts through a sales process, and single-seat retail subscriptions are not how the product is distributed. Students often reach it through a university license. Individual investors and small RIAs who want comparable analytical output on public names usually end up on Koyfin, YCharts, Morningstar or Investables.ai instead.
For the public-market read, yes: what the business does, what the numbers say, how it compares to peers and what could go wrong. It is not a replacement if you need performance attribution, risk models, fixed income analytics, private-company financials or the Excel add-in, because it has none of them. Saying that plainly is more useful than a feature grid claiming parity you would discover was false in week one.
Three levers move it in practice. Strip modules you cannot show usage for, because the full stack premium is mostly analytics many seats never open. Get a competing Capital IQ or Bloomberg quote, since FactSet is widely reported as the most negotiable of the enterprise platforms. And separate exchange data from the base seat in the quote, so the reported 30% to 60% add-on is visible rather than buried in one number.
